We have discovered that the “shelter” is indeed in Patterson. And we have discovered that it was a correct interpretation of town law (that is state law pertaining to towns) that a referendum is needed to close the town dog shelter.
The $36K contract (as opposed to $27K for a local officer) is with Putnam SPCA, Mr. Ken Ross, and his son. He has been involved with humane enforcement in PV for years and deserves a lot of credit for that. Putnam SPCA says that it is not a shelter and it is not town dog control. They contract out with Holiday Tyme Pet Hotel on Route 292 in Patterson for space for dogs when they have them. How is that a dog shelter for us?
