A Brief Return to Petitions & Misdemeanors

Putnam Valleyians have been signing a lot of political petitions this year.

When I was gathering signatures, at one house I went to, the husband answered the door. His wife was within earshot, but was feeding the baby. He offered to sign her name. She is the Democrat. There would be no repeated handwriting. Except for the three of us, no one would know. I probably wouldn’t be caught and the signature would be counted as valid. It would save me time. I would have to sign a witness statement that I had seen the people named sign.

I said no.

But what do you think? It is illegal, but if you can get away with it, does that make it okay?
