To the Editor:
On October 16, the Putnam Valley Town Board authorized $162K for a new garbage truck for Lake Peekskill. It is a small district with fewer than a thousand homes. Only one Board member bothered to consider whether this expenditure was a bit steep for such a small community. When I suggested to the Supervisor that the truck fund be taken out of the 2014 budget, so that taxpayers in LP could have a break, he didn’t understand. Since they are buying the truck this year, and the total assessment of the community has gone down by $4 million, eliminating that $50K from the budget would give the taxpayers of that district a break.
The Supervisor said he didn’t know what I was talking about.
The public hearings to override the tax cap, and for the budgets are set for the day after Election Day.
Putnam Valley needs more than one Board member paying attention to these high expenses.
